Hello,

My lady friend's tank starting leaking last night while we were trying to cycle her new 125l one. We had to move quick so we stopped the new tank cycle, refilled it with fresh water and left it to get to the correct temperature.

I brought round a very small 4 gallon tank to house her fish in temporarily before we decide what to do next.

We were thinking about using this Safe Start in her new tank so we could add the fish in asap, but was wondering what are the downsides to using it?

These fish will not survive long in the 4 gallon. In there is:

x2 polka dot loaches
x1 hoplo catfish
x1 small plec
x1 dwarf gourami
x4 rosy barbs
x4 bumblebee gobies
x2 sparkling gouramis
x1 pygmy cory

...so as you can see it is heavily overstocked in this small temporary tank. We were thinking of buying danios to cycle the new one, but I don't think we'd have enough time.

We tested the new tank last night and ammonia and nitrite are fine.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

...

If you saved the old blue filters I don't think you'd have to cycle... Just get a new tank, fill it up and replace the new blue filters with the old ones. Panic over.

No doubt someone will come along & tell me I'm talking crap though!

Andy.

Ah!

For how long had the new tank been cycling?

Could you ask a friend or indeed your LFS to look after your fish if things get critical?

Andy

I've used it a few times now seems to work ok. If its the right one then I think its more of a dechlorinator. I would reccomend getting Tetra easy balance as well which balances your levels. Seems to work quite well. Just make sure you dont use more than recommendedon the bottle.
