Hello. I tested my 20 gallon tropical tanks water today using test strips. Here are my results. Safe?

GH (General Hardness) : 30
KH (Carbonate Hardness): 40
pH: 7.5
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 40

Are these okay? Can fish go in? I did my research and i think its ok. I know the ph is.
Also...Whats more important? Nitrate or Nitrite?

what is your ammonia and nitrIte??
Test strips are not always reliable, i suggest that you get your self a liquid test kit for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph atleast :) the API master liquid test kit is recommended by some people on here :good:

have you cycled the tank? if not check out the link in my sig... you need to get a liquid test kit coz test strips dont test for ammonia and are very unreliable.

I'm going to assume that because you don't know which is more important - nitrAte or nitrIte, you haven't cycled your tank, which is of the utmost importance.

as said above.....strips are pretty hopeless at giving accurate readings, they also dont test for ammonia which you must be doing, especially with newly set up tanks.

I DID cycle my tank. I tested for Ammonia at my LFS and its fine. Whats more important? Nitrite or Nitrate?

What exactly is your ammonia. Fine just isn't a good answer

And bot are just as important, while one can potentially kill your fish the other gets rid of that that kills the fish

How did you cycle the tank?

The fact you're not sure what the readings should be indicates you didn't, and that you take 'cycling' to mean something else. So if you let us know what method you used, it will help establish whether or not it is cycled and therefore what your readings should be.

He cycled it with a load of BS called Bactria in a bottle. And added 6 danios, 4 mollies and a bettas at once, and doesn't have a trace of beneficial bacteria so the fish are probably going to die due to an ammonia spike

Yes, it's all on the other thread now.

I dont appreciate anyone bringing me down on here. my sister has a 10 gallon. It is not my fault, the LFS told me its ok. I will put them in my sisters tank for now. And for you information, I did NOT add them all at once. I added the danios first then slowly introduced the betta, then yesterday the Mollies.

No one is bringing you down, you asked about your readings and have been advised about them and the situation.

Oh ok! I appreciate your information! im gonna start researching a bit more.

And TBH im not trying to bring you down and nobody else is but we gave you advice from the start and you didn't take it and now by not taking it you are in this situation :good:
