Hello ive just done em and they are ...

PH - 7

NITRITE - 0.50

NATRATE - 0

AMONIA - 0

!!!!!!!!!!

Last night i took out my filter and did my new external one .. do i need any of the filter in it ? because ive just set it up from new :unsure:
 
yeah the filter bacteria will be what keeps your tank healthy and happy.

if you change the filter you need to transfer over as much of the media as you can.

ideally you should run the two filters in tandem for a fortnight then remove the old one.

Where is your old filter media now? the bacteria will start to die off straight away if they're out of water or if in water with no food source within 12 hrs.

so if your old filter media's is still in tank water, get that in your new filter asap and you may avert a disaster, however if it's not then your going to have to go through a complete cycle of your tank. You should read this topic, it's aimed more at new tanks but it's the same situation.
 
it was about 4 hours ago when i put the new one in .. in a ecco .. ive just cut peices of all the sponges and put them where the new blue one was ! hope my fish are ok it should help shouldnt it ? thanks for the reply !Andy

hopefully it'll be ok.

over the next few weeks you need to test the water every day, if you get any reading for ammonia or nitrite then you should do a 20% water change.
 
well the filter emptyed about a quarter of the water so i filled it up again and added aquasafe ... so hopefully all should be well ..thanks :)
