Used the API master test kit.

PH 7.6
High Range PH 7.4
Amonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm

That's looking ok so far :) My tank was used so the filter already had bacteria. Emptied and brought straight to me where I set it up immediately. It's been on since Monday and now got 3 platies in it which are doing very well. No signs of distress. Playing and swimming happily. Eating fine. This is my second test and had 0ppm for Amonia and Nitrite on the test before too.

How long was the filter out of water for? Looking good so far are you dosing ammonia into the tank as well assume?

Still being refused any guppies or shrimp at Maidenhead Aquatics because of my PH. I know they are doing a good job advising people but everyone here says I'd be ok. frustrating as I really wanted two shrimps. Oh well. I am basically only allowed platies and tetra from there.

Don't know but it was all still wet. the person emptied it out that day and lives 20 miles from me. Not dosing as I have 3 platies in there.

Ah were only talking a few hours, will be fine :good:

Thats quite impreesive from LFS yet annoying lol. How long have you had up and running?

On a 100% water chnage my ph 7.1 (ish) after a week im 6.5 so there maybe hope yet

Since Monday. My first test was Thursday and my last test today saturday. When should I do my first 20% water change? And do I do the gravel at the same time or not needed yet? When I do the water do I just cup it out?

Should I give my fish time to settle in first?

I would always vac just as best practice. Water changes are dependent on stats. Some people i know have huge planted tank that run themself in their little bio cycle with a monthly change. I have 100+ messy apple snails and need a 25% water change over 5 days without fail.

When the nitrate in your tank is 20ppm above your tap water :good:

After a few weeks, you'll get to know how long that takes in your tank; it might be a week or ten days and you can just do your water change then.

Or you might be like me and just like doing water changes and do one when you feel like it
