My ammonia test kit maxes out at 5ppm. Can anybody recommend a brand with a higher range (for fishless cycling)?

My API Freshwater Master Test Kit goes up to 8 (Aquatic Pharmacuticals International - - or something like that)

However... 5ppm is absolutely fine for doing a fishless cycle. You just need to be a little more precise when working out how much you need in your tank to contribute 5ppm or ammonia as you won't know if it is more..

What are you using as the ammonia source? I have calculation somewhere that I used for my tank..

Ammonia over 8ppm can cause a cycle to stall. Your test kit should be fine for the job.

Thanks to all for the info. I was concerned that I'd overshot the 5ppm by a large margin, without any way of telling. My approach to adding the ammonia in the first place was a bit slapdash...

Lesson learned! I now have a bottle of household ammonia and can be a bit more precise.

cheers
