Terrorist Alert!

hi
help ....
is it possible that the snails i bought and put in my tank are in fact a terrorist squad??
most every day i see them huddled - on inspection i find they are stripping/eating one of my fish
they have to date had a female betta some platys 2 mollys and some guppys
when they had the first one i checked the water quality - was ok
any advice/ideas please ....

very unlikely
The fish are probably dieing overnight and the snails are eating the bodies.
Look at the remaining fish and see if they show any signs of illness, perhaps a white or grey film over their body. Cloudy eyes, clamped fins, anything out of the ordinary.

What did you have checked in the water quality?

they are apple snails .. i bought a "set" of eight - all apple snails all slightly different colors

Definatley fish dieing then, apple snails wouldn't touch fish and they wouldnt be able to catch them. Check your water parameters.

it sounds alot like they are eating the remains that they find during the night. I agree that you should check your water parameters. i have never known snails to attack and kill live fish in a tank. The snails are doing what they are designed to do, they are cleaning up. Think of the snails as garbage men of fresh and salt water tanks. How large are they? how large is the tank?

hi again ... thanks to all who have offered advice
i have discovered that the waters not been being tested - i have just been told it has & its ok
no water change been happening either ....
so ...
i have taken over the testing etc and have today changed about a third of the water (60 tank) ... put in warm water with conditioner in .... and intend to repeat this in a week --- if tests are ok
ITS EITHER TAKE IT OVER MYSELF OR GO TO JAIL FOR MURDER (ALBEIT JUSTIFIED) lol
