Hi,

Welcome to the forum

This would be a bad idea as the terrapin would eat the fish, also terrapins need to be able to come out of the water and bask so it would be difficult to set up terrapins grow huge, a lot bigger than most people think. Do a google search for terrapns for more information, they live a long time and so you need to decide whether you want the commitment.

they need to be in a species only tank.
at london aquarium theres a terrapin tank, it must be around 2000 gallons + land for them to sit on and bask. no terrapin was under 9 inches long really, they were HUGE! some had ENORMOUS claws too, ones that would really really cause some damage if they got near you.

red eared terrapin fact sheet i found

Hi a1dutch, welcome to the forum :) I have an Ornate Diamondback Terrapin. As stated already I would never put them in my fish tanks. They do eat fish. I would put them in a tank with a basking area and good filtration. Turtles produce a lot of waste.

to add to what the others have said
Terrapins also need a UV light source
otherwise their shells go soft and it causes them all sorts of bone problems
the UV light would have detrimental effects on fish, if any survived being eaten that is

thanks for replys and hello to you all,
im just interested in setting up my tank again and went down to the local pet shop and seen these terrapins in a tank there, they were really small about the size of an old 50 pence piece, just thought they would look cool with some tropical fish and maybe 2 terrapins.

set up my old tank originally with guppys and they were breeding and producing fish within a few weeks, also had neons and some bottom feeders that were forever leaving eggs on the side of the tank, but could never get any of them to hatch.

looks a bit like a no-goer from the info you have provided.

cheers anyway!

I can't add to what has been said but I will say "Hello and welcome to the forum." :hi:
