Hi all!
I have been keeping fish for a number of years now but you will still have to treat me as a relative newbie with this thread because the tank we have was given to us years ago all ready and used by my father in law. I guess you could say we have been pretty babied all these years and never felt the need to take fish keeping seriously. Well i have been thinking about getting a new tank for quite a while now, wanting to start up properly so i know what im doing! lol We only have 5 African Dwarf Frogs now and would like to keep it that way which means the new tank will be home to just those 5.
At the moment they live in a rekord 60. The tank i am looking to get is a Superfish Aqua 60-seems to meet all the things i wanted in a new tank-i wanted one the same volume as the tank we have(around 54l) but with a nice bow front. The filter seems suitable for the frogs so im pretty sure we will be going for this tank. We had been thinking about what to do with it when we get it, our old tank has the same boring gravel in it as when we were given it. We know sand is nicer for the frogs and it looks lovely too so we will be using that.
When we were in the LFS we spotted a tank that was done out with some terrace rock and fell inlove with the idea. Now im thinking of getting a piece of terrace rock to go in one corner of the new tank, but have some questions about this. Im not sure if it is possible to completely fill that area with sand, or if it would be better to do a layer of gravel and then a top layer of sand? or maybe even just have the one corner with some gravel and the floor of the tank with sand-is that do-able?
Im also unsure of how to keep the piece of terrace rock in place in the tank-will i need to use some silicon sealant to stick it to the tank or is there another way of doing it that means if we change our minds down the line and want the tank looking different we have the option to just remove the terrace rock?
And last but not least
What plants would you recommend to a newb that would have little or no maintenance? We have had the occasional live plant in our tank, but they never lasted because i guess we never really knew what we were doing
But would love to have the terrace area planted to give the froggies something else to hide in(and it would look gorgeous too of course!) so what plant would be good to start out with?
We wont be getting a new tank until mid january at the earliest so i have plenty of time to research some more and look into other options but would really appreciate any advice offered
