I have a 4ft (roughly 145L) tank with a mostly sand substrate with a little bit of small gravel mixed in. Currently in the tank I have 2 adult breeding bristle noses, some sterbai catfish. 1 male siamese fighter and 7 black neon tetras + 7 cherry shrimp. The tank has timber, real plants and some rock hidey holes as well as a false rock wall back that only extends to about half the length of the tank. I am really tempted to try putting a pair of electric blue rams in this tank but am not sure if they will be compatible with the current inhabitants. The fighter is really laid back and spends most of his time around the top of the tank or inspecting the various plants and rock wall for any baby cherry shrimp he might have missed.

Does anyone think the blue rams would be a good/ safe addition to this tank or should I hold off until I can get rid of almost all of my guppies and convert one of their tanks over to just the electric blue rams.

Thanks

Ideally for M.ramirezi you'll want soft acidic water with a temperature of 28-32oC and with the current inhabitants that isn't feasible.

Also the Male betta is likely to cause problems, and the Rams may eat the shrimp.

got to sort of disagree with the temp,i have kept my blue rams at 74oc for a long time now without any problems, and they spawn every month without fail,i think they can adjust to more temps now due to breeding, but the water quality must be pristine.

Thanks for the replies :good: . Over here having the tanks get too hot in summer is more of an issue than too cool in winter. The tank has been set up for a couple of years the black neons are the only new addition. But I think I might hold off on the electric blue rams for now. I was mostly worried that they and the fighter wouldn't get along.

I have a female betta in with my breeding pair of rams. No issues at all. They are not aggressive fish. I've never once seen them attack anything in that tank, including ghost shrimp.
