Hi guys, I'm going to rescape my tank next week but the problem is that the tank's already stocked.

Will I be able to restock the fish into a large bucket whilst I rescape? How long will they last w/o a filter? Can I leave the fish in the tank?

eeeek, tips please!

am no way experiance in this but i would have thought they would be ok for a couple of hours without a filter, i have heard of people doing this before?

xXx

How thoroughly are you going to rescape the tank? Whenever i rescape my tanks i leave my fish in the tanks while i am doing it, they don't seem to mind.
Only if you are doing something like completely changing the subtrate would taking out all of the fish really be nesarsary, but its up to you really- if you do put the fish in a bucket, i would advise running the tanks filter in the bucket with the fish too  .

I've kept fish in a 5 gallon bucket for 3-4 hours when rearranging tanks. Adding an airstone helps, and not feeding for 24 hours previous is a good idea. Buckets or coolers are often used at auctions for larger fish, or larger quantities of smaller fish, these fish are kept like this for over 12 hours.

If you are just rescaping, without removing the substrate, you can leave the fish in the tank. I just took everything but the gravel out of my 65 gallon a couple of days ago, while leaving the fish in. I need to dig through my boxes of fish gear to decide what I really want to do with it.
