I really would like a pair (or just 2 of them really, whether they're both fm or m.) for my 20gal. I have a few guppies and platies and some kuhli loaches. I've read up on them as far as what their water parameters should be, tankmates, etc. What I want to know is how they like the tank arranged, water current, that kind of thing. You know, how to make them feel the most comfortable.
Can anyone help with that?

Do you mean Altolamprologus curviceps?

yeah, totally different fish from the Altolamprologus (you know, i don't think i spelled that right either. does it make me a bad person to not look it up and check?)

i think someone tried to post a profile in this forum a couple of months ago; have you done a search yet? there may also be a posting in the fish index. i was looking into them a while back and seem to recall that they can be a bit aggressive when breeding. (no real shock there  ) i also think that i remember reading that they have 50-100 itsy-bitsy fry at a time--this was one of the big reasons that i didn't get any. i prefer "just add water" breeders. :p

Lol! I have a tank of them, as well! I really don't want to breed these, and have heard that you can have 2 m or 2fm with no problems. I did indeed do a search of them, but the index just has info like the water temp, ph level, that kind of thing. I am looking more for info such as what kind of lighting makes them most comfortable/look best, do they like all plants or some open swimming areas, the kind of stuff that is hard to find obviously! Even google-ing didn't turn up much.
I am kind of hoping someone here may actually have some and can share with me.

i have kept them fishwatcher. they are very pretty and easy to keep. treat them like a dwarf but with out any pH issues. anywhere around 6.8-7.4 would be good. lots of plants, bogwood to create hiding places, territories. i kept them with keyholes, angels, festivums and scissortails and cardinals. i remember they liked bloodworms and took a little flake

OK, thanks!
Do you know for sure if it's ok to keep same-sex pairs in a tank, or if they'll end up fighting?

Best kept in pairs, they should be ok for same sex pairs. however, females will act like a pair

aim for your ph at 6.0 - 6.8 if you intend breeding otherwise keep ph at around 7.0 make sure your water is good quality these fish are known to suffer from Exopthalmia? ( i think thats what you call it) commonly known as bulging of the eyes

likes to lay eggs on flat stones
