I peered into my tank tonite and looked closely at the back of the tank and there are little white, not spots, but tiny things that are squirming ! They are ALL over ! Like hundreds of them. What is it  ?

The other day I thought I spotted some white spot on my Severums fins but later they were gone. I have a power filter that produces bubbles throughout as well as some sand so I figured that was it.

Is this whitespot or somthing else ? Looks like little worms on glass ?

I do not see anything on the bodies of my other fish and they all appear to be acting fine ???

Have you got live plants in your tank? could be new born snails :) i have these and they look like little white worms :)

Planaria. A type of microorganism caused by overfeeding. No harm to fish, some like to eat them. Clean your gravel lots and cut down on feeding, they'll dissappear eventually.

No...No live plants in the tank.

I am also having a problem with rapid growing brown algae. If it could have anything to do with it ???

Okay...I found a link about Planaria on another thread. Should I get some Interpet ? How safe is it ?

I just did a 30% water change yesterday and vacuumed half the gravel. I also cleaned the filter. It was yucky !

Should I do another good cleaning tommorrow ?

Need a Pleco big time ! Which is best ? Oh dear...I am freaking :(

First do a water test, if you have been overfeeding and the worms have appeared, you will probably find your ammonia levels (maybe all) are high. this needs sorting, more frequent water changes needed..

You should keep a consistent schedule..

Waterchange 20-30% every week.

Gravel clean every 3-4 weeks

I also clean my filter every month, rinsing the pads out in fish tank water.. (if more than one pad, aonly clean one at a time, dont clean all at once) for example, clean 1 pad 1 month, next month clean the other etc..

Like i say it depends on your filter, how much food you use, how many fish are in the tank, the size of the tank etc.. this is only a guide to help it be cleaner :)

If your water stats are high, then do more frequent water changes over a few days to help lower it, maybe 20% for 3 days running will drop it down and help :) (only do this if tests levels are high.)

This tank has only been set up for 6-7 weeks. I put used media in the filter from my other tank. I do water changes every week and vacuum part of the gravel.

Liquid test:
0 nitrite
0 ammonia

Test strip:
approx. 20 nitrate ?

Tank is 75 Gal.

Housing: 1 large Severum, 3 Tinfoil Barbs, 1 Opaline Gourami, 1 Pictus Catfish

I added the Severum approx. 2 weeks ago. I think this started it. When adding him some of the LFS water did go into the tank :(

I feed lightly and when cleaning gravel...not much goo

Now I have brown algae, white wormies, and possible Ich !

What would you recommend I use. Is there somthing to treat both Ich and the wormies ??? Safe ???

I am going to vacuum gravel , do large water change and remove ornaments and scrub. Than add meds. What do you suggest ?

:(

Thanks
