Has anyone every had teeny tiny livebearer fry? I have 3 platy fry that I didn't even notice in the tank until I looked from the top, they were thinner than a human hair and about 1/5-1/10 the size of their siblings. They swim on top while the others stay at the tank bottom. I'm worried they might not be able to eat anything (too small) and not survive.

Here's one of the tiny babies next to its regular-sized sibling. They're both almost a day old.

Well, here's my confession: I've been a very bad mommy. After my platy gave birth, I moved her into another tank and took out the java moss I used in the birthing tank so I could watch and monitor the fry better. I took the moss out by small clumps, shaking them to make sure no fry was left inside. Then I stuffed them into a small jar with untreated water and decided to take a shower first. After my shower, I poured the jar's contents into a plastic tub, and that was when I found 2 platy fry. both were already dead by then. i feel so horrible imagining how they must have suffered, poor babies. :-( I've certainly learned my lesson from this experience.

They are tiny, need fattening up with baby brime strimp.

Are they even big enough for baby brines??? Maybe they could just eat brine eggs. Wow those are tiny, good luck and let us know how they do.

About a month ago I had the littlest guppy fry born...there were only 2 and I am sure they came from one of my young 3-4 month old guppy fry.

I didnt have any place to put them so I let them fend for themselves but they got eaten :X

I kinda feel guilty but I'm always having fry so I need to have a harder heart :p

This is the first batch of fry platy I've used a separate birthing tank with to maximize babies saved. If I had just let the mother give birth in the main tank, these tiny fry would not likely have survived, even in the birthing tank now I almost didn't see them (almost impossible to see from the side). I think they're too small for BBS, I'm not even sure they can eat microworms (I was actually afraid their siblings would eat them), so I tossed back some java moss in the tank coz I read before that they produce microfood for fry.

Turns out there's four, not three of the tiny ones. Still alive and active as of today. :)
