Tea Tree Oil

Have you ever use tea tree oil?

How much do you put in?

hi i used it to treat a new arrival a panda corry that was going down hill fast
it had fin rot
i put 7.5 mil of essencial oil in a small bottle of tank water and gave it a good shake i then put the lot in my 87 uk gal community tropical tank i think there is a faq on here do a search for melafake
i think i was guilty of a bit of overkill with my dosage but
1 my livingroom smelt lovely
and 2 i saved the panda
i carried on with my weekly water changes of 30% throught the treatment
i would not hesitate to use the same way again

Melafix? that is tea tree... I dose 1 week out of the month then primeflex just to be safe.

There is one important thing that the above post didn't say (or at least I didn't see), is that before use you have to shake the mela'fake' vigorously for some time. Real melafix has chelating agents in it to help keep the oil and water phases mixed. If you just use straight oil and water, they will of course separate. So, shake, shake, shake.

Though if I read it right, cardboard, you are suggesting putting in medicine once a month? Even without a disease? This is a very poor idea. All you do is breed medicine-resistant strains of the bacteria or fungus. Then, when you do have a bacteria or fungus, you will have to use a stronger and potentially more dangerous medicine. Not to mention that melafix, being and anti-bacterial, cannot help your cycling bacteria. Save your medicine for when you really have a problem, and then it will work better, too.
