We have been noticing our PH rise from 7.4 (Tap PH) to over 8 in about 1 day.... so we thought it was the sand but it looks like its just as the tap water sits.

I have heard something about gasing as it sits..... any idea on how to alter this as it is a little more than high!!!

thanks.

Tapwater often comes out with a lower pH because of CO2 trapped in the water from high pressure lines, the CO2 acidifies the water but when the water sits for a while the CO2 gasses off and the pH rises back to its true value.

Altering the pH and KH of water is risky business and if its not done properly can lead to fish deaths, a stable but high pH is definately prefferable to an unstable pH. If you really have to lower the pH then using R/O water to dilute the tapwater is the safest way to go about it.

Yeah i refuse to use chemicals to change my PH. i do have a lot of % of bogwood to try and lower it. but to no avail. i do wonder if this what is affecting my danio's
