Hi

Got some Mopani wood which I soaked and boiled for about 4 days, seemed to be clear, but when I added it to my tank(fishlees cycling at the moment) It decided to start leching even more tannin into the water, I've added my carbon sponge back into my filter and a bag of activated carbon into my tank, but its still a bit tea like, which is a nice effect but i would like it to be sparkling, Any other tips????

Cheers

JOHNNY

Take it back out again and give it another soak, maybe a week or so...

Tannins take forever to come out, mopani wood is the worst culprate for it, I dont think even soking it for another week will do much good. It will over time lessen, after months not a week though.

I have taken the Mopani wood out, Its the tannin in the tank water I'm trying to rid it of, I dont want to do a water change as I'm right in the middle of cycling.

Any suggestions

Cheers

Why does everyone have an issue with tannins lol.....fish love it.

Agreed and I have a tank full of the stuff. If you want clear water now, then I'd go buy a bottle of purigen made by Seachem. It works like carbon but it's 500% more effective and is rechargable too.

I wouldn't worry about removing the tannins until you're finished cycling, they won't hurt the cycle and there's no reason to stall it just to clear the water up when there aren't any fish.

At the end of your cycle you'll have to do a large water change anyway and that should take care of the clarity issue.
