I couldn't decide whether to put this post in the planted section or here. Anyway, I recently purchased two really nice chunks of Malaysian drift wood. Going in to this, I knew that the wood would release tannins. One of the pieces is flat with holes in it like swiss cheese. It stands straight with Java Moss tied all over it. The second is the size of a football and has a twist pattern in the grain....looks reallllly nice.
I'm just curious. In general, how long would it take for a football sized chunk of wood to deplete most of the brown-colored tannins? I'm not worried about the tannins themselves, just the dark tint in the water as I feel that it may limit the quantity of light reaching my microsword and hairgrass. If I had a camera that was worth a darn I would post some pics. In time.
Thanks in advance for your insight.
