Just a quick question.

I have a new piece of bogwood (not sure what) has been soaked for a month or so with regular water changes. I have now put it in a new tank but still lots of tannins, do the tannins affect the amount of light getting to plants?

The reason I ask is some of the plants are going brown and look as if they are dying off, Anubia's and some sort of Crypt (I believe they may die if moved)

I have another tank same size and with the same wattage, have wood but no tannins and the plants have never been died like this and actually grow quite well.

Both tanks are 54 litre, 15W (I know low), DIY CO2, and have a layer of tetra complete.

Any Ideas

it does reduce the light getting through the water column, but plants like anubias and crypts should be able to cope fine with the lower lighting as they can grow in very low light, i wouldnt of thought it would be the tannins that are affecting them.

Note: just read that your lighting is 15W how many gallons is the tank? that sounds like verrryy low lighting, anubias should be fine but your crypts might suffer.

They are 54 litres, so roughly 14 US gallons or 11.8 Imperial. I believe WPG is based on US gallons, so only just 1WPG so very low.

The first tank is fine, all plants growing nicely but slowly, Anubia's, Java fern, some crypts, Riccia (Floating and pearl), small version of Vallis (cannot remember name), even Pogostemon helferi is growing, ok not that well as I forgot to add CO2 for a couple of weeks so started to die but is back on track again.

This new tank, nothing, even a bit of riccia just looks as if its dying, to me it just looks dirty.
