What is the smallest size you could comfortably put a betta in? And do bettas do well with other fish? If so, some suggestions.

1 gallon should be minimum if im not mistaken, but don't try it...
i've got a 2.8gallon for my betta(ichigo,see avatar pic) only...and a 4.8gallon tank as a community that i am currently working on.
