I want to start a setup breeding some fish I already have and maybe some new ones in for example 3ft tanks.

My question is simple

I have a garage connected to the house, with one external facing wall and a lift up garage door. If i had a rack at the back corner with tanks on with seperate heaters in each. would they hold temperature?

Im thinking of placing polystyrene or something of the sort on each side except the front, back and bottom of the tank and possibly even insulate the lid.

what do you guys think, considering the difference we get in temps do you think its possible??

I could even make a cover to place over on a night,

Opinions??

You would be best insulation the outside walls of the garage as well, a lot of people will partition the garage and board and insulate the rest.

Maybe put a test tank in there and try your idea see how it goes

Where in the world are you? I've put a lot of tanks in the garage in the past, insulated well they did OK, although the probably used a fair amount of electricity to heat them.

Back to backing the tanks also helps, so the long faces are against each other, that way they lose heat to each other and you view them end on, assuming you have the width to do this. Can also mean that you can get more in.

I'm in north east England, if I ran two tanks side by side insulated between them then I wonder. I don't think I'd be allowed to partition anywhere as its the folks garage. I guess I could make a kind of temp partition with large poly sheets. Hmmm need to have a look in garage and measure up.
