I am looking to buy a new tropical tank and wondered if anyone could suggest the best one to buy for a beginner. I am looking for something between 100-125l, with a pine cabenet, and would like to get one which the filter and light run off the same plug but it this is not possible then that would be ok. I already have a tank with a few fish which up until now have all survived so quite proud of myself but would like to upgrade to a bigger tank as the one i have now is quite small.

Also at the moment i have a couple of female siamese fighters, two dwarf aquatic frogs and 5 nions. Any suggestions to what i could put in with these when i finally get my bigger tank is very much appreciated.

Thanks

i suggest Juwel tanks, they are great for me as they have good lighting, a great internal filter/heater and look very nice. However they don't have a pine stand but the beech is nice (thats what i have!) Also they come in many different sizes and shapes.

Depends on budget.

If you are good for cash then Juwel although their internal filters are positively crap and i would definately replace it, I did and loads of others on here.

If you are slightly tighter for cash then look at Aqua 1, their budget tanks are great, and they also do range more like the Juwel tanks

There is also Rena.

Always go for the very biggest tank you have room for.

Thank you for all the comments. I would like to have a really big tank but it is going into my bedroom and its not the space its the issue it is the weight of the tank on the floor that could pose a problem.

I'd love one in my bedroom; make sure you know which way the floorboards run and put the weight ACROSS them, rather than along the length of the boards.

It doesnt really matter on make of tank as nowadays, Everything has a standard trading mark on the tank to prove it is fit for sale, no matter how cheap, The glass won't just crack, they have been tested to the standard. You will find the size tank you want will be easily supported by the joists I believe joist's are about a foot apart so there for plenty of weight will be spread Boards are laid across never upwards!

I have lots of tanks, Juwel, Aqua One, a custom made one, etc, but the one I have in the bedroom is a Cayman (made by Ferplast). The filter hangs on the side (heater and powerhead and media all in the one filter box) - this all works off ONE plug. Lights, filter, heater, etc.

The minus side to this filter is that it doesn't give too much flow - it is quite gentle. My normal tropicals love this, but my cichlids wouldn't!

The plus side (and it is a large plus in the bedroom!) is that the tank is silent to run. I've had different tanks in before I bought this, and kept waking up to the gurgling and water noise, etc, but this one is fabulous for the quiet.

And, it is a very good looking tank.

I was lucky - they do them in black and silver I think, but I managed to get a dark graphite coloured one that was mistakenly classed as silver.
