As I said in your post in the main section, cherry barbs will grow too large for a 10 gal and are best kept with something other than a betta. I seriously would not trust them an inch.

Endlers livebearers or Normans lampeye killifish are a safer choice, smaller spcies of cories are fine also.

I thought Panda Cories need something bigger than a 10 gallon? I would go with 6 of a dwarf cory species and then maybe the african dart frogs, I don't know much about their compatibility or their bioload though. But I think 6 cories and a messy betta should be plenty for a 10 gallon. Maybe a snail?

In my new 10G planted tank, I'm going to have a male Betta with a pair of guppies (1 male, 1 female). Eventually I should have some fry, but since the boy will eat them all there shouldn't be TOO many. :D I might also get a couple cories for it.... ^_^

Maybe a few cories could live in the tank but definately no frogs or barbs, the tank would be too small for anything more.

dont expect the betta to control the fry population..ive found they do a poor job in this respect, so have some sort of back up to have an outlet for the inevitable resulting fry explosion.

OP-
is the tank going to be planted? if so, you could have some cherry shrimp and some otos (but otos need lots of plants to stay healthy and well fed, as they will grow algae on them for the otos to eat). you could also try some endlers and small cories if the shrimp or otos arent to your liking. i wouldnt suggest a frog. it is hard to make sure they get enough food with a greedy betta in the same tank.
some snails would also be great!

cheers

I agree with what has already been said but if you are insistant then i've kept frogs with both male and female bettas with success. The trick is to feed your betta away from the frogs and use a pippete to get their food to them, i even went as far as taking mine out of the tank to feed them everyother day. but now i just distract my girl and squirt the bloodworm down to them (i have 7 in a 10gal).

As far as your stocking goes then i would say

5 peppered cories if you want something larger they max out at 2inch
or
8-10 pygmy cories these max out at 1inch but will not spend all their time at the bottom of the tank they swim mid water and feed from the bottom and so would give an effect of having more fish in there.

ADFs are happier in larger numbers so i would say a minimum of 5 but you must be willing to ensure they get their food.

Cherry barbs IMO are a no in this case, not with a betta i'd only risk endlers as a free swimming fish and even then your betta may eat them alive
