I'd really like to get angels for my 65 tall gallon tank, and was curious of what you thought of these potential tankmates:

guppies
gouramis
cories
mollies
rainbowfish
danios
otos
rams
kribs

I'm not real clear yet on the angels' temperment and "reputation".

Also, should I have a single angel, a pair, or a group of them? And what ratio of the sexes should I have? I read that they pair off...do I need to try and pick two that seemed "paired off" at the lfs, or do they even pair off that young?

Sorry for all of the seemingly obvious questions :*)

Thanks for the help.

mkay, I'm gunna try to anwser as much as possible.

Guppies- My angels (body size I'd say little bigger than 50 cent pieces) have eatten a Guppy, Opps!

Gouramis- I've saw alot of people that have a Gourami Angel combo, BUT angels and Gouramis are some what related and are known for having problems (fighting ext.)

Cories- Great for angels

Mollies- Not real sure but it should work, Although Angels like soft water Mollies and other live bearers prefer a more hard water.

Rainbowfish- I've never kept them myself but i think they should work fine.

Danios- Could be pushing it, Angels might be able to get ahold of them guys

Otos- Should be fine

Rams- Yep

Kribs- Yep (but i would'nt get a breeding pair as they can be rather agressive then)

Angels I would call Semi-Agressive, because they generally don't kill other fish but will sometimes sorta lung at them.

As for the amount of Angels alot of that is personal preffernce. A singal would work, A pair (if not a breeding pair) The more dominate one will sometimes attack the weaker. With a group the percentage of having a breeding pair is greatly increased. Its rather hard to sex angels expecailly when young but, when they are some what older you can kinda wing it, For instance Male angels get a small lump type deal of there head, Also males (like adams apples) have a V shaped throat.
Females throats are more rounded. Uhh also if the angels are from the same spawn the larger ones tend to be males.

Angels pair when they get older so I don't think there a huge chance of a young pair. (BTW I'm not talking real old I'm sayinh like sexual maturity) BUT I have two angelfish in a 29gallon right now that when they were at the LFS they were kinda buddies and stayed by themselves away from the others in there own corner, So i choose those and they still get along great. (and i knew at the time they were far to young to be a pair)(they were smaller then quarters)

Alright I tried Hope it helps some!

I have 1 angel and he's still very, very small. I purposely bought him (or her) so small so it would grow up with the other tankmates and hopefully NOT have them for lunch. :D

Well think of it this way, In the wild they would grow up with these fish around them too. So I don't see any differnce in them growing up together in a aquarium then in the wild.(and still being food) Instinct Over Rides All B)
