I was looking for some quick opinions. I was considering buying two Angelfish for my empty 55g tank. Would a Blue Gourami make a good tankmate?

sometimes gouramis nip at fins... but i doubt it will be a problem because you have a large tank... not much hostility

Can't really go wrong with some cories and some larger species of tetra like the Black Widow. If you buy some smaller angels then that would open your options up even more.

While we are at it, name some good tankmates that will reach 4" - 8" and are daytime active.

Thanks for your input. I have decided to go with two angels, three bala sharks, and three pictus cats. An active black and silver community tank.

the bala shrks will get FAR to big

Shoulda gone with something Like a false flying fox or a Rainbow shark...

Pictus cats need more space for 3 of them as they love alot of swimming space and they can get aggressive once larger.
Black Widow tetra's may nip the fins of the angelfish also.

Some loaches such as yoyo's would be a goodc option silver and black coloured very fun dudes get 4 of them or so and that would be cool :p
Might not be your cup of tea (how could they not be...they are so cool)

I have angels with dwarf gouramis, swordtails, black mollies and ottos. There hasn't been any aggression, fin nipping or the like. Angels and gouramis seem to treat each other like they don't exist.

I know Black Widows are ment to be fairly aggresive for tetras but I have no problems at all with my 6. I suppose it all comes down to each individual persons tetras though. At the end of the day all fish have different personalities.

The blue gourami is more aggressive than others... whereas a dwarf, honey, or pearl gourami should be fine with angelfishes. I've seen yoyo loaches get aggressive later in life too; from what I've heard, I'd go for angelicus loaches instead. But I would definately add cories in with angelfish; they would be a great bunch of bottom feeders with angels.
