Hello, I currently have a 55 uk gallon tank thats hone to 3 tiger barbs and one male firemouth cichlid. I was wondering what I could add to the tank? I considered adding another firemouth but the only ones I can find locally are considerably smaller than the one I have. I am also considering upgrading to a bigger tank. Any ideas on what I can put with my firemouth?

Typically you dont really want to keep barbs (especially tigers) and cichlids together as they both can get aggressive and usually problems will arise. But, some people have kept them and had no problems, so I guess it depends on your fish. Anyways, You can keep alot of other cichlids with a firemouth, it just all depends on tank size. I would say that if your panning on adding any tankmates then def upgrade to a bigger tank. You can keep an Oscar with him, but then need about a 100USG tank. If you do a GT or JD or RD then need about a 75G to 90G. I'm sure you can make other combos that would work but I dont know much about other species of cichlid so I'm not gonna make any other recomendations.

Just make sure you have a back-up plan. Everytime someone asks whether they can put two species together, then you must make sure that there is a back-up plan as aggression can arise at any point; whether they are just put together, or been together in the same tank for 5 yrs. So make sure you have another tank/a lfs/or a friend that one of the fish can go to as this is the only option besides letting the fish kill eachother....not cool. But in general, if you get a large tank with plenty of room then most cichlids can devide up territory and live in a "forced-truce"
