My boyfriend and I just got back from picking up my new tank. All the way I've been saying to him ok be calm, gentle etc etc. So we get in the apartment building and have to set the tank on the groud while we get the elevator. So I of course set my side down very gently he on the otherhand doesn't and I hear a little crack sound. Once in the apartment I took a look at it and see the corner has a crack in it. The piece of glass hasn't fallen out but it's loose.

I feel like I am going to throw up

Here are pictures from both sides

It doesn't look too bad from the pic. I dont think it has penetrated through the silicone on the inside of the tank. I would gunge the corner with silicone (aquarium silicone that is, should be available from your local fish shop)) on the outside of the aquarium and let it cure for a few days then fill it. (set it on a level surface with a sheet of polystyrene below) and see how you go.
I've seen worse cases than yours and they have repaired, no problem.

Too me it seems bad but then again I've never chipped the corner of a tank before so I don't know what's bad and what's ok.

"I would gunge the corner with silicone on the outside of the aquarium and let it cure for a few days then fill it"

What does gunge mean? just put a couple layers of silicone over the crack?

I'm trying to get into killies..they are one of the reasons why I got this new tank.

Dont put silicone over silicone as it doesn't adhere too well. But the outside looks pretty sound so smear a good layer of silicone around the offending area. ( to Gunge - put on an excessive amount).
What size is the tank!!
Killifish are my forte, if you need any help or assistance then just ask.

Alright I'll smear a bunch of silicone over the crack then. I'm really afraid the tank might start leaking or the pressure where the crack is might cause there to be too much pressure causing another crack or something. I'm feeling pretty sick at the moment. It cost quite a lot of money with all the stuff it came with.

The tank is a specially built tank it measures 45x12x16. I got it used off a guy. I don't know what type of killifish I want to try. I just found a shop near me that the guy has over 115 different types of killifish that he breeds. He was going to talk with me about what beginner killfish were the best ect ect.

I'll pm when I decide to get some!

WOW!! 115 different species of Killifish you are privileged. I would'nt mind getting to know that guy myself.
Good luck with the tank.

Personally I would also try and make some sort of support for the bottom. I would probably use some angle metal and weld up a frame for the tank to sit in. Smear some silicone on the inside, set the the tank in, and then add some silicon to the corner that is damaged. All the tanks I have seen have a plastic frame on the bottom and top and if this one had something similar I don't think it would have cracked like that.

That doesn't look too bad at all. At least it is in a place where the water won't be fully acting on it.

Here you can see what happened to my 6x2x2 as we carried it up stairs. You can see that on this one it went right through but I was lucky it was the bottom. I just siliconed an entire bottom onto it and patched the inside, and to date: no leaks.

If you really are worried you could do the same. Silicone a new bottom pane onto the underside of the tank and put a patch into that corner of the tank. that way it should prevent any undue pressure being exerted onto that area of the tank.

Looks ok to me.

I have a 20 Gal that has a crack on the bottom that runs from the front to the back (i.e the whole width of the tank!). It did leak, as we came home from holiday earlier in the year to find it like that!

Anyhow, got hold of some sealant and smeared it over the crack on both side, left it and now no more leaks.

Be careful if you are going to do this, you may not be able to see the glass shards and sharp edges if you use fingers - I suggest a spatula/lolly stick.

Alright I'm feeling better now after hearing from all of you that it looks ok and should be ok!

Andy if that happened to my tank I think I would of been sick for quite awhile. I'm glad you were able to fix it

I've smeared silicone all on the outside and have filled it with water overnight and so far no leaks or anything.

So where the crack is "the water won't be fully acting on it" right? I can relax and let my boyfriend off the hook? :p I told him last night that if it was ruined he was going to go to the aquarium shop near here and order me a custom built tank exactly like this one  ;)

looks okay to me, glad it's not leaking
Put him on a guilt trip and make him buy the killi fish for you :p
