I got up this morning to find my aquarium water is a pink/purple colour, not cloudy or anything just has a pink tint. The fish seem to be ok, eating etc.

Any ideas?

Nope, all I've done recently is add a Fluval FX5, so its now being filtered by that and a Tetratec 1200, I put an airplane decoration in the other day as a temporary home for my clown loach but I've used this decoration before in another tank, it's been packed in the cupboard for a few months.

Did the other tank have the same pH as the current tank? Did you change anything else? Are all of the light bulbs you have over the tank working?

I think the other tank PH may have been slightly higher as I had cichlids in it with coral sand.

I added some white aquarium sand at the weekend.

Lights are working, I just have one T8 tube and an LED light designed for small tank for the moonlight effect.

I've bought some test kits to check parameters when I get home tonight and plan to do a 50% water change.

The acidity of the water could have made something come off the ornaments.

What should I do?

Remove the ornament

50% water change

Check parameters before and after then monitor

Anything else?

Try checking parameters, then water change and see how it goes..

All fish are accounted for.

I've only fed them with British King tropical flakes and 2 small blocks of frozen blood worms since weekend.

Other than what has already been suggested, could it be that the blood worms, or the water they were frozen in could be responsible for the colour change?

Could a fish have gone through your filter and been shredded?
The water would have had small chunks of white (flesh) floating around in it then, fish do not have very much blood.

[…] could it be that the blood worms, or the water they were frozen in could be responsible for the colour change?
+1, this is the only other explanation I can think of.
