Here is todays thought for you. Do you really know how much water is in your Aquarium. Once you have put the base and decorations and other things into your tank. Do you ever accurately measure the number of liters in your system.

To work out the volume of water in the tank:
measure length x width x height in cm.
divide by 1000.
= volume in litres.

When you measure the height, measure from the top of the substrate to the top of the water level.

You can use a permanent marker to draw a line on the tank at the water level and put down how many litres are in the tank at that level.

There is a calculator/ converter in the "FishForum.net Calculator" under "Useful Links" at the bottom of this page that will let you convert litres to gallons if you need it.

Just FWIW and maybe a useful tip.
My permanent marks on the tank are based on how many litres from here to full, rather than how many liters up to here.
So in my tank which holds 60 litres: (Actually holds 60 litres of water - not its a 60 litre tank)
I have a mark 40 litres down from the level I like to keep the tank at. When I do a water change I simply drain to that level and refill. As I use jerry cans that makes it easy and I don't have to watch to avoid overflowing - that tank gets 4 10l jerry cans every week, and I never get the level wrong. I have another mark at 30 litres - so if I need to put in a different amount I know what 10 liters look like.
