I have been running a 110 ltr tropical tank for over 2 years now and have finally got the chance to upgrade to a bigger tank. :D

I have a Juwel Vision 260 coming my way hopefully in a couple of weeks time.

As this is the first time I have upgraded to a bigger tank there is a couple of points I would like to clarify.

Do I need to transfer everything currently in the present tank into the new tank in order to keep the bacteria balance right - ie...gravel, wood, filter media and water..?

If so, do I then just top up the water to the new 260 ltr level or do I add water gradually and can I add the fish straight away ?

I have never really had any problems with the water quality in my 110 ltr tank so I don't want to balls it up...

Cheers

You will need to transfer the filter media and the fish at the same time and preferably the gravel too. Fill half of the new tank with the old water, the top it off with new water, let the temperature equalize (and the ph and hardness if you mess with those), then add the fish, filter media, heaters, and decor. The media should be fine sitting in water for up to a day or so, but I wouldn't risk more than 12 hours. In the whole process, do not let the filter media dry out. This will kill your bacteria very quickly.

Good Luck,

Ryan

Thanks mate, I will try your advice..

As regards adding extra fish, will I have to wait a bit to do that after I have done all of the above?

I would wait a week or two before adding fish just so your fish are over the traumatic event and don't have another reason to stress.
