So I took George's advice (thanks George!) and pulled all the E Tenellus out and kept the least 'algead' plants to start a new carpet and threw the rest away.

After the suggestions from the what to do next, I've also added another couple of rocky sections to balance out the main caves on the right. So this is what it looks like now....

Here's the overflow tank too. It's a low-tec Rekord 70 with a pair of killis and their offspring in it. I think overgrown is probably the best word for it :) Although there's a lot of growth in there transplanted from the main tank, I've been surprised how well stuff grows in here, albeit a lot more slowly, I guess having a rich substrate and primarily rooted plants helps. If you look closely you can see the amazon sword variety in the front has a long runner going from it to the back left of the tank where a new plant has started.

Nice :) the new rock certainly helps balance out the scape. I love the penny wort (Is that right?) that’s growing up the bogwood on the left, softens it up and looks really cool.

You planning on having anything between the front plants and the valls, if I had one constructive criticism, it would be that the valls are very much a 'wall' and something mid-height between these and the other plants would help grade it a bit.

Just a small point though, looking really good. And I like the over flow tank, this might sound daft but what’s the purpose of that?

Sam

EDIT - perhaps a lily between the valls and the crypts? on the far left?

Hi Sam

I'll have a think about the mid-level plant. I know what you mean, it is a bit of an imposing wall of Vallis.

The overflow tank is actually to house the killifish. It was going to be a quarantine tank, but the killis had other plans when they started attacking the other community fish, so I've ended up setting it up as a species tank instead. It's quite nice really and is interesting to see how it does with no CO2 and pretty low lighting.

I may aquascape it a bit more some time, I just don't want the overflow to become as much work as the main one.

Incidentally I still can't figure out how to get the Echinodorus in the centre of the main tank not to grow crinkled leaves, so if anyone has any tips please let me know. The trace ferts don't seem to have cracked it.

Cheers

Karl.
