We're finally getting some good hot weather on the west coast of Canada but ive noticed on both my tanks the temp is at 82-84... the heaters have been pulled for about a week as i forget to plug them back in after my water change. One tank is a 65 gallon and the other is just a little 3 gallon betta tank but both at up betweeen 82-84. I have tetras platies gouramis danios whitecloud minnows and bristlenose plec's in the 65. im worried about the minnows as they do like cooler water but what about the rest??

The minnows would be okay short-term, but since it's summer now, I doubt this will only be 'short term'. I'd freeze some 2 Liter bottles of water and drop them in - start with one at a time, and if that doesn't work well enough, try two. That'll help cool the tank down some.

82-84 at room temp..thats crazy!! anyways, if u have a basement or something maybe move the 3 gallon down there?? be careful with ich...or have some the ridich ready if you do mess with the temps. you need that heater in there to keep the temp stable. i think 2 or more temp changes in warmer water would bring ich. good luck

yea ive never seen this before im not sure whats going on but right now at 10pm at night the tanks reads 29 celcuis/ 84 fareinheit. my thermostat in the house is off the chart past 32 degrees celcuis and of course being in canada we dont really use air condintioning, its very rare for a house to have one. I could move my bettas house downstairs but i have no idea what to do with the 65. Everyone seems fine now but im not sure what will happen in a couple days as it looks like this weather is finally hear to stay. I have my fan blowing on it right now but its not helping...also i'll be leaving on Thursday to vancouver island till sunday so hopefully before then all hell doesnt break loose.

i have the same problem here in belgium, with summer here the tanks are quite warm without the heaters on (80+) but dotn like the idea of big two litre bottles in the tank, would that not change the temp too fast? would ice cubes made from tank water not be better? they can be more easily distributed through the tank?

Some other tricks you might want to try is to take the lid off your tank and put a fan blowing over it. It will cause more evaporation and thus cool the tank (inst thermodynamics fun :shifty: )

Also, try cutting the lighting schedual or, placing the lights farther from the water surface.

Remember, fish can deal with warmer temps for a while without any real issues, but constant hot and cold temp shifts can shock them.
