On passing my 55 gal tank i noticed the digi temp was showing 38.4 degrees celsius!! :shout:
After panicking and checking the stat at the other end of the tank, realised my digi stat has gone haywire,i've put a regular glass stat in and its showing the normal 24.5! phew!!

Has anyone else had probs with these digi stats going wrong?

Digital thermometers are terrible, avoid them unless you're prepared to calibrate them regularly.

I've had these for well over a year and hasn't caused any mis-readings,i'm just glad it was the stat.

Ive a digi and wouldnt change it for anything else, i think with the digi you get a better temp reading.

+1 I have a digi temp too. never given a false reading and very accurate! Couldnt do without it

$2 glass thermometer. accurate enough for me, if you check it once with a digital thermocouple or another accurate thermometer then you know what the error offset is. even if it reads high or low it will still give you an accurate relative temperature (ie you will see if it gets a degree or two higher or lower). much less likely to break, and won't run out of batteries!

Digital thermometers are a tricky business.

Talking from a lab perspective, temp. is always double checked with a regular thermometer, just in case, electrical stuff can 'go haywaure' as you say.

At home in my tanks, I use both.

38 degrees! There's only one thing for it... Get your bathing suit on!

James.
