hi in about a months time i am replacing my 120L tank with a 240L my problem is that the new tank is a direct replacement and will be going where the old 1 is

the plan is i have an area i can temporarily have the old tank while new 1 cycles etc so i will have that set up with the fish im going to keep ( most going back to lfs as changing types of fish i keep) then when new tank cycled transfer fish over. now obviously i cant just move the tank when its full so it will have to be drained etc questions are what is the best thing to do with the fish while i do this the best thing i can come up with is to empty out the old tank water into the new tank put the fish in it moive and set up old tank then re-connect filter etc refill half new water half old water then put the fish back in and empty the rest of water from new tank clean it piut in the substrate plant it etc etc is there an easier/better way to do it?

I would (and have) done this. If you can, have a large bucket/bin (unused for anything else), drain as much of the current tank water as you can, net the fish and put them in the bucket. Drain out the rest of the water so the tank isnt too heavy. Obviously turn off heaters/filter etc.

Disconnect all you need to and then move the tank to its temporary place, Refill the tank with as much water as need be (trying to keep the water the approx temperature you just took out + dechlorinate) re-net the fish back into the tank, the add the water from the bucket back in. Turn back on filters/heater.

I wouldnt take out any of the substrate or plants, just the water.

Once they are happily in the new place, then worry about setting up the new tank.
