Tank Suitability For Clown Loaches

I have a tank that is 36 X 12 x 15 inches. I intend to put in fine sand as the substrate. Is the tank big enough for Clown Loaches (x2 or x3)? Is Sand a suitable substrate?

Sand is fine.

Ultimately the clowns can get to 12" and more, so the tank will, at some future point, become too small.

However, it takes clowns many, many years to get to such sizes, and after 6" their growth slows a fair amount. I would say that the tank will be fine for a good year or few, but keep an eye them and be prepared to upgrade in the future.
