This is getting pretty bad now.

Walmart, PetSmart and PetCo. All your usual pet stores are stocking the little 1/2 gallon tanks now, they are marketed towards Bettas.

I am a bit disappointed that companies are putting out extremely inadequate tanks. You'll see on the box "All you need to have a healthy, happy betta."

We all know that housing a betta in a 1/2 gallon tank is crazy, and if you want to have a "healthy, happy betta", you're going to need a tank of at least 5 or 10 gallons, adequate oxygen and temperature control.

Inside the box is usually a tank, which is usually about as big as an alarm clock, food, and "special betta water", which we all know, is usually just bottled water.

This is Madness, and it shouldn't be happening.

While Im sure most of us agree here they are ridiculous, threads like this tend to get people all riled up. There have been literally dozens of them and none of them end well.
glad at least you realize the care these fish actually need.
cheers

I'm sure there's people that have other opinions, that's why they get riled up.

And that's fine, I stated my opinion, and the opinion of a lot of people.

Swim on,

I agree, but I also have to admit before having the knowledge I was ignorant and thought betta was okay in it as well. It is really up to the consumers to understand.

Eh what do you expect.... They're retail stores, they care about money, not the well being of fish... ESPECIALLY not fish (cough) Walmart (cough)
