Hi all, i bought my girlfriend a 10G tank for her birthday. I can get tank dimensions if need be, but i think it was 52cm L x 30 W x 30H (not 100% sure though so i can get exact if need be)

I was wondering if it would be okay to divide the tank down the middle leaving 5gallons or so each side. Would this be okay for a betta on each side? It is not 10G long, not to tall.

Regards,
Indir

That should be good for the fish...5 gallons is more then enough for a betta to live confortably, 5 gallons each the Betta fish should be happy

Okay cool. Time to find out how to make a nice divider for her hehe.

Any ideas on making the divider?

You could give Modaz from this forum a shout as he sells dividers quite reasonably priced and good service :good:

Buy a bit of acrylic drill some holes in the bottom stick in the middle of the tank and bobs your uncle :)

Thanks everyone. If the girlfirend decides she wants to split the tank for two bettas ill be doing it for her lol.

Any way of making it non permenant or removable?

Acrylic and get the dimesions exact it should hold its structure. You could also cut a slot through it put through a piece of acrylic then attach a few suction cups to it to hold it in place

I went to my local pet shop before and got one for £8. Its 12"x12" in size and im going to have to cut it all down, dont see why it shouldnt work though.

If you want it removeable in the sense that the tank looks as it did when you bought it, then using a sheet of perspex drilled all over with small holes is the easiest way to go. Just make sure it's a VERY snug fit so the fish can't get round the sides. The top of the perspex must also reach a good couple of inches above the water if possible so the fish can't jump over it into eachother's areas. If the tank has a cover glass or splash tray under the hood, then the perspex must nearly touch that.

Add the divider before the gravel or sand. The substrate will help to hold it in place better, and if it still wobbles slightly, then a few well placed rocks either side should sort that out.

Here is my 10gal split for my two boys.

just to give an idea

whenever I divide a tank I use the penplax dividers and use pea size dabs of silicon at the top and bottom of the divider front and back. it holds it very very securely and can be removed in less then 2 mins with a flat razor blade.

I have also made home made dividers using cross stick plastic and binder spines. made 3 dividers for under five dollars. you can use small suction cups to hold the dividers in place, but I find the silicon to be much nicer looking.

Thanks everyone. I will post a pic eventually if she decides she wants me to split it up for 2 bettas lol.

Thanks for all the help

The divider i bought today has a few metal clips, the just slide inside the plasic slot where the divider sits inside the tank, then come over the top off the glass and down the side, just to clamp it in place and stop them from moving, then obv the gravel will stop it from moving at the bottom.
