hi in need of help heer ive bin lookin at bettas and thinking thier real pretty i was wonderin do you think a 18 by 10 by 10 inch tank would b ok 18 is da height

I'm not sure how many gallons that is, but here's a little info for ya:

males CANNOT be kept with other bettas, gouramis, paradise fish, colorful fish, and nippy fish.
The MINIMUM tank size is 1 gallon, although I don't find it to be a very nice size, so 2 gallons or 2 1/2 or 5 is way better.
Females need to be kept in large groups to spread aggression, unless you have only one. For one, it's the same as the male, for the groups they need to stay in, which is 5 MINIMUM, I'd say a 5 gallon, but if you get a 10 you can keep about 8 females.

HPH!

yeah i'm only planning to get one and if eny1 nows how mutch my holds in litres or gallons that would be a great help its the one in first comment

Seven US gallons, I believe. You could even put a divider in there and have two. :3

I have my Darby in a little 3g and he really uses up all the extra space. It sounds like, if the tank is 7 gallons, you would have one lucky betta, whichever one you adopt. ;)

i dont know about a divider and two but do you rekon 2 females could get along fine if they dont ime not botherd ii'l just get a colourful male i have another tank with fish in me bedroom i just wanted a small tank for the rest of me family to enjoy :good:

As I understand it, it's best to keep at least 6 females together, and that would almost certainly overstock your tank. They need lots of room to get away from each other and hide.
You could always try a male betta with maybe an African Dwarf Frog and a Mystery snail. That was what I had in my 10g, although Darby decided he liked the taste of snail antenna, so I had to move him. I've never heard of other people having trouble with bettas and mystery snails though.

cheers yeah i think i'll just have the one male ya never know mite end up gettin another tank 4 a female and breed them in a breedin tank cor i can c myself gettin adicted

I found a site that figures out the volume for tanks yours works out to 7.8 gallons.

maybe get an ADF and a few shrimp? does anyone know how shrimp and ADFs get on?

you could have alot of hiding places for your lucky boy too.

ROFL! That would be really cute if it wasn't for the fact that I'm actually getting quite attached to my snail (who has since been dubbed "Bento".)

I've heard some say that Bettas will eat shrimp, but I suppose it all depends on what your Bettas like. I'd love to get some amano's for Darby, but after seeing him snap off Bento's antenna, I don't think I would take the chance with him.

i guess when abu (at the time dubbed jacques like the shrimp on nemo) was first put into the tank, aladdin was so timid, he was like i don't really care about you, you can't hurt me but i'm not going to hurt you...just in case" and they've gotten to be good buddies. i've watched abu sit on aladdin's head before  .

for those of you who dont get the names, think of the aladdin movie.

Lol! That's so cute! I bet he helps keep Aladdin's tank quite clean, not to mention his gills!
Darby is anything BUT shy. That's why I got him in the first place.
