id like to know what is the smallest size tank u could have for malawi cichlids and would they survive in small tanks. if you did put them in a small tank would you have to make any thing different for the fish.

The smallest tank for a malawi would probably be a 30 gallon but that would probably only be good fish like yellow labs. I wouldn't recommend though any other malawi cichlids though. They probablly could survive in smaller tanks but they would not be happy.

Malawi size range immensly in size and aggression, so you can't simply generalize a tank size for 'Malawi Cichlids'. A few of them can handle 30 gallons and 3 feet long, the majority need at least 50 gallons and 4 feet long, and many should have 100 gallons or more. If a generalization is going to be made it's safer to do it as 'Malawi's should not be kept in small tanks'.
