Hey..
I have had gravel for a month or so now and its starting to bore me! :)

So I was wondering if I could have this:

One solid roof slate as a base, instead of gravel.
A few stones of varying sizes, to add some interest..
And a few potted plants, instead of buried ones.

any reason this wouldn't work? :X
Or suggestions how to improve the idea? :)

sounds perfect to me, though the base of the slate must be flush to the tank base as you'll get a nasty build up of waste under it, nice rich greens of anubias would go ideal against the slate and far more attractive than java ferns or mossballs i think :good:

Hi
Should look very smart :good: Maybe use aquarium sealant arond the edges of the slate so water and muck cant get underneath :good:

azul has a very old tank that is slate bottem, looks nice when clean, is not any harder then bare glass to clean either.

Cool :D

Might do it next water change then :)

will it be Ok to take all the water out of the tank with the gravel, then put it in.. I have a tank I could put my betta in.

It's a 6 sided tank (cant remember the word! hexagon?) so i will have to cut it to fit

I think it would be a bit mean to cut your betta to fit the hexagon
