I posted a few days ago about whether I will need to cycle my tank, as I was changing from gravel and just a couple of real plants to sand and planted, the tank had been fishless for 2 days but the filter was over a year old, so mature and still running, anyway the sand and wood is in and the water, I tested the ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and ph this morning and its all looking brill, some plants are in, I am going to test again tomorrow, but do you think this will mean I wont have to cycle (assuming all is well)

I am at work so cant remember the test results off the top of my head, but according to the booklet its near perfect

If the filter was moved straight from another tank and had a source of ammonia then no, it won't need cycling again. :)

But even without a souse of ammonia for two days in a tank with plants is probably still cycled. Just be gentle with the stocking!

I think I am going to give it another week and see what happens, I will get the plants they way I want them first, we are going to have assassin snails, how hardy are these, would they be good to get first?

..a week without a souse of ammonia would definitely kill off most of the bacteria..

Ok, so whats the best way to go?

The bacteria in your filter need food. The best way would be some fish in there to produce some waste, but failing that you can add enough ammonia to dose it up to 3 or 4ppm.
