Right in the week to come I'm planning to re scape my tank.

This is what I'm hoping to achieve:
tank.jpg

I've already got the wood and some of the plants
(I'm not good with plant names so you'll have to bare with me)

Below are the titles off the picture and why I want them.
(I need some plants IDed ill post them pictures tomorrow as lights are out)

Straight Vallis:
I've got 2 lots of it at the moment I find it is doing well and covering the corner of my tank behind a rock like cave looks good so im hoping it will look good behind the wood as in the picture

Green Myriophyllum/Cabomba:
I have a plant in at the moment that I don't know what it is, it does look allot like the Green Myriophyllum but I'm not sure. Anyway that plant really fills the back out nicely so I don't think I'de need allot of them to fill the back

Medium Leaf Plant:
I have a plant at the moment that doesn't have really big leaves neither does it have small leaves but its grown well and I think putting this in along the back will break it up abit make it abit more interesting rather than just Cabomba looking plants all the way along.

Amazon Sword:
I've got one already the woman at the shop got the wrong plant out for me but still they are nice although the size that it is in my dads tank is mad which is why I'm putting it at the back I don't want it to overwhelm the tank too much until I get a bigger tank then I'll move it over.

Crypt:
I also have this plant I got the other day or at least I think that's what it is but yea I'de like to have this plant breaking up the bare space between the back and the front

Not Sure:
As it says I'm not sure what plant I want to go there but I'de like a Crypt like one with leaves like the Crypt or something similar although I've been told Crypts grow big and would be good to just have one so yea if you have any suggestions would be appreciated.

Small Leaf Plant
I also have one of these plants again not sure on what plant it is but i like the look of it just being dotted around places breaking things up abit.

Short Grass:
Some like this http://www.aquariumpw.com/images/biorbGrassRing_Lrg.png not sure what it is but I like the idea of it just round the front bits of the wood just so it doesn't look bare.

Then maybe later down the line ill get more plants but that's just for now.

What do you think?

I'll post pictures later on plants I have so they can be IDed!

I don't like your choices. It isn't good or bad, IMO. I think you are not utilizing the best of your tank, but what you have isn't bad, so I refrained from voting.

For me, I think your scape is too center-oriented and symmetrical. I think you should look into the rule of thirds, or the golden ratio. Aim for a tank focal point, a piece of bogwood for example about 2/3 into the length of your tank.

Another easy scape is the right triangle scape. Tallest plants to one side, the focal point a little more over (2/3 again), then smaller plants as you get closer to the opposite end of the tank.

Island scape is another popular type. The wood will again serve as a focal point with plants radiating outwards from the wood. Tallest plants behind it then smaller as you move forward. The rest of the tank is quite bare. Some grasses maybe or foreground plants.

In general, cluster your wood together rather than put them separate. A good start would be to arrange them together a third from one side of the tank.

i have been looking for a main focal peice of wood but I havn't found one as of yet so if I do see one it might change abit again
