Hi all,

4 days ago i posted a topic about the reading on my tank . Basically i swopped the media in my internal filter to my external filter . In doing that i lost a silver shark . So i thought the filter must have started a mini cycle . So i put in ammo lock took some readings and they were as following..

Ammonia 8.0 , not good
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10

So i have been doing a 15% water change every day for the last 4 days . The readings every day have been the same , no change .

Checked the tank for anything dead, gravel is clean , water is crystal. And i cut their feeding down to every 2 day . Fish look great.

Is it possible there is nothing wrong and the ammo lock is giving me strange readings? any advice ? The death of the shark was stress?

Ammo-Lock converts ammonia into ammomium. Test kits measure Total Ammonia which is the combined amout of ammonia and ammonium in the water. So when you use ammo-lock, the reading you get on your test will be nearly all ammonium + whatever ammonia is left hanging about. I would advise therefore that you gradually reduce your water changes maybe to 15% every other day next week and so on. Also keep a close eye on your fish and up your water changes if you suspect things are not quite right. It will take a little while for the ammonium to clear.
