I'm planning on redecorating my tank and I'm planning on putting sand down. I've come across some that is the color I want, but comes enriched to support plant life. It's the CaribSea FloroMax sand - has anyone used this? Does it work? It's actually cheaper than normal sand so I'm confused about that...
My tank so far has 2 Mollies, 2 Platy's and a Cory. I want to get a few more fish, and I figure I have room in my 30 gal. I wanted to get another cory or 2 (Even though they should be kept in bigger groups I hear) as well as another molly and platy (To even out the population, it's a 1:1 male to female ratio right now) And some Neon Tetra's (Any idea how many?)

So planting the tank... what types of plants would be good with these types of fish in a tank that hovers around 82 and has bubble wall? - the fishies won't eat the plants will they?... I'm guessing I'll also have to add supplements for the plants - what types of supplements? Any brands in perticular that you would recommend?

I don't know much about plants, but I can tell you that cories should be kept in groups of at least 6, and neons in groups of at least 6, 10-15 is better but the more the merrier really. In the wild they live in schools containing hundreds or even thousands of fish.

I have platies and they do like to nibble on the plants, as do the clown loaches. If your wanting them to breed the more plants the better from what I'm reading on here.
I'm not very good at remembering the names of the plants I'm afraid so my spellings will be off (sure someone else with set us right) I have some thick leaved plants which have a darker green inner to the leaf and a paler creamy coloured outer strip. The Platies and the clown loaches have all but destroyed it. I got some Cabomba? yesterday and they're not eating that - yet. There's also some stuff beginning with E in there and they're having the odd nibble and have pulled the odd bits out of the gravel.
For me it's trial and error right now. Good luck with the planting :)

How much are you paying for the sand? Why not use ordinary play sand? At £5 per 15Kilos, You won't get much cheaper? For your 30 Gallon maybe need 1.5 Bags, add about 5 Root tabs in there for the plants and that would put you at around £13 for All the sand you need?

Cories up to 6, 2 more female mollies, as the male will stress the female when mating, so spread the stress levels

Ideally get rid of the bubble wall, this will difuse CO2 from the water which is what you want to avoid as the plants use up the co2, and Im assuming you will not be dosing carbon dioxide as your relatively new to the plants scenario. Dose Once per week with a simple fertiliser, Certain fill will nibble on plants, Mollies rend to nibble algae as well as stem plants like cabombba.

Start off with a substrate depth of 2.5"-3", Easy to grow plants such as Cabomba, Java Fern, Anubias, Vallis, and work from there mate
