Hi Guys

Looking to get a 60L tank and was looking for some good ideas about what fish to keep in it? WOuld it be possible to mix and match a few to make a small community tank or should it all be one species?

Thanks

You could have 2 or 3 species. I'm thinking something like 4 pygmy cories (if you have sand), a school of 6 small tetras, and a couple guppies or 1 betta as showpiece fish.

Randi has a good idea. It all depends on whether you're experienced or not. If you want to be adventurous you could go for something like:
3x Apistogramma sp. (1male 2female),
4x Pygmy Corydoras,
6x Green Neon Tetras,
3x Otocinclus.
These fish will only thrive in soft, acidic conditions.
(That's probably what I'd do) A nice bit of driftwood, sand substrate, a couple of plants and some leaves on the floor. A perfect little South American riverscape.

I really want to make one of these now..

OR, if you're new and want something that's less hastle:
4x Pygmy Corydoras,
3x Otocinclus,
6x Neon Tetra,
1x Betta
(These could be kept successfully in a wider range of water chemistry and are more hardy)

Good Luck,

This is a common asked question, but how to tiger barbs and neon tetras go together? I know you need at least around 4-6 barbs for them not to harass the other tank mates. What do you think, i have heard all different stories.

if the tank is 2 foot in length, or more, ideally, then tiger barbs might be an option, but personally i wouldnt mix them with anything shy.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Amazon, as good as the first tank sounds, I think I'm gonna stick with the second one as I'm pretty new to fishkeeping and I do really like the look of betta's.

Thanks again :good:

Forgot to ask, if anyone can help, does it matter what colour neon tetras as I know they come in different colours? Could I have a few zebra snails/cherry shrimps in there to help clean or it that too much?

Thanks again

As long as all the tetras are actual neons, the different colours will shoal together. Shrimp and snails don't add much to the bioload of the tank so add some if you like them.

I know it's not relevant now, but just for anyone else who was wondering, I've kept neons and tiger barbs together before and they were fine; just make sure you have large enough shoals; a dozen od each I would suggest.
