I currently house 3 orandas, 1 black moor & 1 telescope all in perfect peace and harmony.

I cannont find any information as to whether or not I can add any more different types to the tanks.

I would like a small shoal of bloodfin tetras or similar but dont know where to find them or their compatibility.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Orandas, black moor & telescopes are coolwater fish, tetras are tropical.

If you want a group of shcooling fish in your coolwater tank then white cloud mountain minnows (WCMM) are a good option but be aware that orandas, black moor & telescopes will eat anything that will fit in their mouth, including WCMMs

I know tetras are tropical but I have a coldwater tank witha few fancies and acouple of ordinary goldies and six diamond tetras. there is no heater in the tank but as we have central heating the temp isn't that low. The diamond tetras are doing great I've had them for about 4 months and they have grown and prospered!

We have all in all three tanks set up a small one with our Blue Lobster, my 96l coldwater tank and the 300l Tropical set up. I did have some blue tetras in my coldwater too which also got on very well but we decided to move them to the tropical tank to make more room in the smaller one. So I would say that if your tank is in a room with central heating where the room temp is never going to be "cold" then some tetras would be fine. Just going on my experience.

I keep my tank in a hallway which I keep the heat switched off to try and keep the temp of the tank down but its always at a constant 20'.

The new tank is going in the kitcken which has a radiator in it but its not the temp that worries me, I dont want to see my investments getting eaten!!

How big is the tank you are going to house all these fish in, fancy types need 10 gallons each.
Dont worry about the temperature as fancy goldfish need a temperature of 18c and above.

Well from my tank none of the smaller fish were eaten. None of the fish even seemed to be interested in each other they just live their own wee lives and dont bother with eachother.

Maybe if your fish are big enough to get them in their mouths but the tetras are probably too fast for orandas etc. Why hunt for food when it is delivered to them in easy to swallow portions!

And you'll find that the smaller fish will probably school together anyway and the larger fish wont bother with them.

Its 40 gallon and knowing the 10 Gallon rule I now know that what I already have is too much for even that without adding more.

I was using the 1" rule, is it any wonder I have the nitrate probs I do.

Considering Im housing my current lot in (im not saying) I feel somewhat barbaric and ashamed.

My Orandas and moors really exploded in size when I first got them Im just hoping I havent stunted them.

The new tank is my parents garage I havent had the balls to tell the wife yet but it looks like its gonna have to be sooner rather than later.
