Hi again guys

i posted a little while back about my pair of julidachromis... i was really into the idea of getting some electric yellow labs to go with them in my rexford 96....after getting some good advice from the forum (thanks) and having a think about it plans have changed....

the new plan is to wait until next summer (when i finally leave uni, get a job and move in with my boyfriend into our own house) so i can buy a bigger tank (i really want a decent size 300l upwards) which will be a nice home for the yellow labs.... so the problem is that i'd really like my hospital tank back which my julidachromis have taken up residency in so they need to go back into my (soon to be more or less) spare 96... i really dont want to keep them completely by themselves so im looking for suitable tankmates (i think i got a pair so they need to be okay when/if they breed too), bear in mind that they have already cut up my corys fins and shaken up my bleeding hearts.....so... any ideas are welcome, it was suggested before that ocellatus might be quite good but would they be okay if they or the julidachromis breed???

Thanks!!!

Julidochromis ignore shoals of mid-swimming fish and a few schooling fish act as target fish and reinforce the pair-bond. Apparently they can be aggressive towards closely related species such as j. regani but other Tanganyikans of the same size or slightly smaller are ok.

All you can do is try and see, with these guys it's impossible to predict. People have kept shelldwelles with Julis both with and without success (they're known to harass shellies, and if small enough even bother them in their shell nests). Other rock dwellers, like Alotolamprologus, Leleupi, or Caudopunctatus could work as well. Faster top dwelling shoalers usually work, like many Rasbora's and Danios. Some tetra's will sometimes work, though from what happend to your bleeding hearts it's probably best avoided.

thanks guys

i've got a group of lemon tetras which i'll probably try, also i like the idea of a shoal of harlequin rasbora, could i keep these with the juildaromis along with a pair of Leleupi and maybe a pair of shell dwellers???

sorry a couple more questions too!!!

which shell dwellers should i go for? ocellatus was recommended before, would that still be the best option?? plus i guess im just assuing i should be keeping these cichlids in pairs, is that right or if not would would be best??

Thanks!

If you're gonna keep shellies with the julies keep ocellatus because they will be able to hold their own in your tank better than any other shellies.
