I've got a 120l tank that will be empty shortly, dimensions are (aprox) 122cmx30cmx38cm

I really fancy a pair of firemouth chiclids, done a bit of research but I can't seem to find any suitable tankmates that I like the look of, just looking for suggestions really. Know the tank will be near enough full with just those two in (if they get to full size) but I'd like maybe another 2 smallish fish. not sure if it's best to get a pair of another sort or two different sorts? Just looking for suggestions really of some pretty and happy tankmates for them! As the footprint of the tank is pretty big I'm also thinking of putting in a smallish plec and maybe a small shoal of cory's to give a bit of movement at the bottom of the tank.

ideas anyone?

There are no other fish you can safely put in that size tank with a pair of firemouths. Smaller spaces will restrict growth, increase the likelihood of disease and result in much more injury and death from fighting. Also, if you happen to get a pair of male firemouths in a 120 liter, one of them will probably kill the other.

reckon it would be sensible to get just 1 firemouth then and then say 1/2 smaller chiclids?

or is it just not viable to keep them in that size tank?

You could keep 1 FM in a 120 litre but as for tank mates, i would only add a couple of bottom feeders like BN Plecs or a couple of the smaller Synodontis species.
