Can anyone give me a rundown of what maintenance i need to do on a daily, weekly, monthly etc basis on my tank

cheers! :good:

Daily- Check that everythings working, fish are all OK etc. Feed.

Weekly- Waterchange, 25% ish. Rinse filter media in old tank water if needed.

Daily: feed fish, check that they are all present and correct, and that filter etc is working (however, you can go away and leave them without attention for the weekend now and then)

Weekly: water change (20-25%) with gravel vacuuming, adding plant food if using, remove dead leaves if keeping plants, clean algae off glass if necessary. If you have fry or very sensitive fish (like discus) or messy fish, you may need to do more frequent water changes.

Monthly: rinse part of filter media (like one sponge) in tank water (you may need to do this more often depending on setup)

it's siphoning the dirt off the gravel, you can buy a cheap gravel vac in the pet shop- it's basically a piece of plastic hose with a bit of a head on it, you get the suction going by moving it up and down in the tank a bit so the water starts flowing through the pipe (the other end of which you stick in a bucket)

rarely, if you mean sponges; the filter wool that comes on top of my Juwel filter, I change every other week, in between I just rinse it out in tank water when doing water change. Haven't changed my sponges yet in the 18 months current tanks have been up and running. If you use carbon sponges, they will need changing though; otherwise, they start discharging the much again after a while
