Tank Looking "eh"

Poly: Thanks for the input!

CS: Hehe I like the simile! That sign has been around for awhile! It's a piece of fishy heritage, plus once the plants start coming in it won't even be all that noticeable. I'm amazed at how much I like this set up better than the other. I thought the more junk you could drop into the tank, the better it would be, but clearly, opting for a more natural look provides a more serene feel. I'm probably going to start going plant crazy, but hey, these addictions are good for your health. Maybe I'll even quit smoking and drinking coffee to save up for more plant life AND lower my blood pressure!

Now you've got all those fake plants lying around why not set up another tank for breeding rather than show and put them in there. The fry will not care that they are fake, they will still hide in them.

That way the money you spent of the fake plants won't be wasted

I wish I had the space, time, and patience to breed. Sadly, I'm severely limited in all areas! heh

Oh and today I bought a nice heaping helping of java moss!

I definately think the more natural look in your tank is fantastic. We went the same route you did, fake at first and then realized that natural is better. Its looking beautiful!

Yep the natural look is definitely more fitting. The only problem now is trying to get the right blend of plants into it. Oh that and the fact that every time I do a water change, I decide to move the plants around. I am still holding on to two fake plants - so I need to find a replacement(s).

Hi - nice tank :)
I wanted real plants in my tanks but no hassle with special lights or CO2 so I had a 'try it an see what survives' over the last 18 months or so.
I have found that there are a variety of amazon swords which will grow in any tank. Java Fern can be attached to driftwood and it also is successful in all my tanks. Anubus species also seem to survive well.
I have a plant called babytears which is slow growing but survives well and the plant in the attached photo is successful and quite pretty because it has yellow hues in my main tank but pink in some of the others. I don't know what it is call though, someone else will.
I have never had any luck with cabomba or anything with red in it.
Good luck
