Hello

I recently purchased a "Tetra 55 Gallon Deluxe Starter Kit" and stand. Before I start to fill the tank with water, gravel, and decorations I was wondering if the location I chose would be sufficient. Our house has a "media room" that has a surround sound setup. I am concerned that the bass would be an issue for the fish. The bass does not typically roar through the room, but occasionally a film will cause the bass to go off semi-frequently.

Are there any fish that will not be bothered by vibrations from the TV? Will they get used to this?

Thanks for your help,

JH

I believe all fish are the same and the vibrations will cause them problems.
Take for instance I used to have some massive speakers in my room that were not too powerful.
I listened to music but I noticed my fish were acting strangely(hiding swimming faster than normal) so I took them out.
And they seem to be all fine and normal after a day.

Maybe there will be a chance they'll get used too it..As long as its very minimal..Huge sound vibrations could be just like someone tapping on the glass 24/7 if your watching tv.

As for fish that wont be bothered, I'm not too sure people don't talk too much about this certain topic.
You can do research though its your best friend.

Goodluck

They'll get acclimated to it. Unless the fish were locally bred they got shipped to your shop air freight. If your system is as loud as a cargo jet you'd better worry more about the neighbors.

Going back in time, I played guitar in a metal band, the usual megawatt stack of amps gear. We practiced at the drummer's place, he bred oscars above where we practiced. Breeding fish are generally considered to be content with their conditions, so either they were content, or he was breeding a strange strain of metalhead oscars.

I've ripped through enough lumber with power tools in my fishroom to see the effects this type of sound has on various species, several who were breeding; none at all. A good friend of mine imports from South America, and lives less than a block from an airport, right in a flight path. Jets fly over, you stop talking for a moment. He has no problem with his fish.

(invisions Tolak in a band...the horror)

i would be more worried about water getting on your equipment over the fish. electronics and water are by far not friends, and accidents do happened. but thats just my opinion on the matter.
